Summer Reading Program Winners

Calvary Christian School is pleased to recognize the elementary students who completed our first annual “I Am A Reader” Summer Reading Program.  Nearly 30 First Grade through Sixth Grade students finished a challenging summer assignment to read 10 to 15 books during the 11-week summer break.

First Graders mastered three monthly word lists; for “Honors,” the first graders also read (or had a parent read to them) fifteen books each month.  Second through Sixth Graders were required to read 10 books of at least 100 pages each, and then complete a Story Map telling about each book.  To qualify for “Honors,” the students read at least 15 books during summer vacation and handed in completed Story Maps for each of those books.

What a challenge, and what a finish!  We are proud to recognize the 18 students who earned their “Reading Reward,” and the 11 students who earned their “Honors Reading Reward.”  We congratulate you, students!  You are role models for reading excellence, and we commend you for your hard work and great achievement.

The students will be honored publicly before their peers during an upcoming Elementary Chapel, and the celebration will continue with an ice cream party that afternoon.  We would like to say a special “Thanks!” to our Calvary Parents Association, who generously donated trophies and gifts to the winning students.
