Students at Calvary Christian School celebrated their “Patriot Pride” with Spirit Week, a weeklong event that culminated on Friday evening, January 28, with the school’s Homecoming game and the crowning of the 2005 Homecoming Queen.

Daily spirit themes allowed students to dress in camouflage, school colors, and even as cowboys and indians.  A Morning Chapel service on Friday further fueled the excitement, while giving students the chance to reflect on topics of eternal significance.  A Friday afternoon pep rally provided an opportunity to cheer the Patriot teams toward victory.

Young ladies were elected by fellow students to serve as representatives on the school’s 2005 Homecoming Court.  Selections are made based on each lady’s Christian character and testimony, participation in church and school, academic achievement, and lastly, grace and physical attractiveness.  Dixie Hemingway and Lindsey McDaniel were chosen as the 7th Grade and 8th Grade Princesses.  Senior High court representatives, vying for the title of 2005 Homecoming Queen, were Caroline Black, Sara Smith, Asheley Gregory, Natalie Grooms, Ashley Martin, and Rachel Seibert.  After the court was presented on Friday evening, Caroline Black was named second runner up, Natalie Grooms was named first runner up, and Ashley Martin was crowned as Calvary’s 2005 Homecoming Queen.

Because of their concern for the victims of the December 26th tsunami, students at Calvary Christian School asked their families and friends to contribute spare change as a way to assist in the disaster relief efforts.  During the “coin drive,” students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade worked together to raise a total of $1,426.44.  Coastal Federal Bank assisted in the effort by counting the donated change, which weighed over one hundred fifty pounds.

All donations collected will be sent to Sri Lanka through Fundamental Missions of Norfolk, Virginia and will be used specifically to benefit the tsunami victims.
