Update: 3/20/06
Mr. Gregory,
This is Joy Van Nostrand (formerly Neiman), class of 1990. I thought I would finally write and let you know what I have been up to. I have been meaning to send an email for quite a while.
Well, for a quick update of the past 15 or so years. I moved with my family to South Dakota and then Illinois back in 1991 and '92. I lived in IL for about 3 years, but kept in touch with friends in SC. It was during a visit to SC that I met my future husband, Lance. I moved back to SC in 1995 and Lance and I married in 1996. We will be celebrating 10 great years this April.
We have been living in Charleston, SC since the end of 1996 when the company Lance worked for relocated. It was a great move for both of us. Lance works (well, actually 'worked') for a yacht brokerage firm, in the service department. I was able to go back to school and finish up my BS and get an MS. And in February (last month), I finished up my PhD at the Medical University of South Carolina - YEAH!!! It was a long, bumpy ride but I finally managed to get here.
We are in the process of relocating to Oklahoma for my new position. I will be a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Oklahoma. For those of you who remember my dream to be a Marine Biologist, all I can say is God apparently had other plans for me (doesn't He often!). My degree is in Microbiology so OK is not such a strange place. Lance and I are very much looking forward to the move (there are lakes so he can continue with his current work). We will be just a few hours from my parents and Sherrie, who are now in Arkansas. I had been hoping to move closer to my family and I must say God has a great sense of humor - how else could I interview for a position in TN only to have the lab move to OK!
My email address is birdoprey7@netzero.com and I would love to hear from anyone. I will send my new mailing address as soon as we are settled somewhere.
God bless,
Joy
