Diana (Johnson) Saults ('87)

Update: 08/17/2006

Mr. Gregory,

I hope this finds you and everyone from CCS doing fine!  Everything in Illinois is going well.  Matthew begins the 4th grade tomorrow at Jamaica Elementary; the same day CCS begins its school year.  It's hard to believe that 20 years ago Chris, Tonia, Melody and I were beginning our Senior Year at CCS.

Please have my e-mail address updated on my Alumni page to show racindmj@insightbb.com when you have an opportunity.

I'm not sure if you knew, but on July 1, 2006, Kay Tyler lost her middle daughter, Candace, in a car accident around Monroe, NC.  Keep her in your prayers.

I hope Misty, Johnny, Matthew and your grandbabies are all doing well.

Please tell Mrs. Gregory hello for me and give Mr. and Mrs. Weeks my love when you speak with them.

Take care and have a great school year!

Diana Johnson Saults

Update: 05/19/2005

Matthew's father (Mark W. Saults) and I were married March 4, 2005, in Danville, Illinois.  As of Memorial Day Weekend, Matthew and I will re-locate to Indianola, Illinois, to make our home with Mark and start our new lives there.

So much has happened over the last year.  On December 30, 2003, I had gastric bypass surgery and have lost 131 lbs.  I feel like a totally new person! The picture of Matthew and I was taken in October at Sea World in Orlando.  I was to my goal weight in this picture.

On January 2, 2005, I was in a severe four-wheeler accident and almost lost my life.  The tie-rod on the front of the four-wheeler was not secured and the four-wheeler threw me sending me into a tumble on my head.  I broke my shoulder and was taken to Waccamaw Hospital in Murrells Inlet.  During the night, they discovered that I had two bleeds on the brain and a subdural hematoma.  On the 3rd, I was taken to MUSC and placed in the Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit, on the 4th, they moved me to the Neuro/Surgical Ward and on the 5th of January, I was sent home.

There was no medical explanation for my vast recovery and both the Neurologists here and in Charleston strongly proclaimed it was nothing they did medically to contribute to my recovery.  I was out of work for only four weeks.  To this day, I am living with the look of a broke shoulder (doesn't really hurt), a scar above my left eye(barely noticeable) and am on seizure medicines for the remainder of my life.  However, if you never knew me and had just met me, you'd never know anything was wrong at all.

My physician's partner (G. Lynn Brook) was the attending who sent me to Charleston and did not expect me to make it.  She prepared my physician and her nursing staff for the fact that I probably would not return from Charleston.   The Neuro-Surgeon handling my case in Charleston (Dr. Patel)
expected me to have severe/permanent brain damage.  Both the Neurologists, here and there, have been amazed.

They began treating me for seizures and Alzheimers immediately after my accident.  The treatment for both of these conditions were to be for a lifetime, however, the Alzheimers treatment was discontinued over two months ago.  Now, I'm only treated for seizures as a preventive measure.  The only seizure recorded was at the scene of the accident and it was a grand mall
seizure.  However, with the amount of brain damage, they see no way possible that I can go seizure free without meds.

God has had His hand on me throughout all of this and it is because of Him that I survived and am alive today.  The severity of this accident opened my eyes as well as Matthew's fathers as to how short life can be.  We have a different appreciation for it all now.
